Keeping your family healthy is no doubt a top priority for everyone, especially now, but before you reach for the bleach, there are some things you need to know to keep your natural stone looking great while staying safe.

Though Natural Stone is known to be durable, you still want to maintain its shine. As you know, most Professional Stone Companies will seal your stone to protect it from stains or discolorations. Unfortunately, harsh cleaning products can strip away the sealant material and penetrate the stone, causing etching and stains.

You may then be asking yourself, what can I do? Many commercial cleaners are not suitable for natural stone such as bleach, vinegar, and or window cleaners. Instead, mix one part rubbing alcohol to three parts distilled water and add 2-3 drops of your favorit natural dishwashing liquid. Or you can omit the dishwashing liquid and put in liquid Castile soap, which is a vegetable-based soap, and add 10-15 drops of essential oils to freshen the scent.

In addition, a handy tool to have is “Revitalizer” by Laticrete. It not only cleans your everyday messes, but reinforces protection to your Natural Stone Countertops. I myself use this product in my own home and we carry this product at ACE Granite.

We are all taking precautions to keep each other safe, so prevention is the most important part of natural granite maintenance. With that said, make sure you’re wiping the surfaces down daily and catching spills as soon as possible. Follow a gentle approach to cleaning your granite and it will look great for years to come.
